Summary: Solid Intro to Organic Gardening
Comment: RODALE'S ALL-NEW ENCYCLOPEDIA OF OGRANIC GARDENING is a solid introduction to organic gardening. If you are looking to start growing plants without using synthetic fertilizers or pesticides and to build the soil in your garden by preserving and adding organic matter such as compost, then this book is a solid investment. There are more than 400 entries in this nearly 700-page book; every entry has practical, how-to information that you can take to the garden.

All of the entries are set out alphabetically in the table of contents. You'll find that both ornamaental and edible plants are broadly covered in this text. That's important because this book will get you growing organic in every way--not just vegetables where most people start.

Surveying the table of contents and paging through the book is a good place to become familiar with how to truly benefit from this book; you'll find that many entries overlap with other entries. For example, you might start with a question about tomatoes (there's a lengthy section on this fruit), but if you have surveyed the table of contents you'll know there is a separate even longer entry on "vegetable gardening." The two entries complement each other to no end. Reading around in this book will expand your knowlege base subject by subject and add to your overall understanding of organic gardening.

If you are looking for an illustrated guide to starting an organic vegetable garden The Vegetable Gardener's Bible: Discover Ed's High-Yield W-O-R-D System for All North American Gardening Regions is a good beginner's guide. If you are an advanced beginner or expert vegetable gardener ready to go to the next level, The Kitchen Garden Grower's Guide: A practical vegetable and herb garden encyclopedia is highly practical and informative. But if you want to become familiar with organic gardening then RODALE'S ALL-NEW ENCYCLOPEDIA OF OGRANIC GARDENING is a great choice.

Summary: Excellent Resource!
Comment: Simply put this is an amazing book! The new version (1992) is much better written than the older version I own (1975). Of course having more than one can give you different perspectives.
